This is a very rare cap, I have only seen one of these caps in the flesh in the last 25 years. The NS-RKB was a branch of the Kyffauserbund (The War Veterans of Germany), mostly made up of German veterans from WW1. The Kyffauserbund was personally disbanded by Adolf Hitler in 1943 as a result of the Germans disastrous defeat at Stalingrad. Originally based in Rudesheim am Rhein, Hitler seized all the organisations assets (which were plenty), and transferred to the central control of the Third Reich – ultimately under his power, so as to increase funding to the German war effort.
The Schirmmutze has a fine dark blue doe skin body, very soft to the touch. The cap band is a black tight weave and totally undamaged. The white piping is secure and again undamaged. The cockade is in perfect condition and the National Emblem above still has estimated 70% of its frosting intact – a very nice unusual frosted produced example. Internal of the cap it has a brown glazed hessian head guard with one tear at the front. The sweat band is in excellent condition, the cellulose diamond has a very minor area missing at the back of the cap but external of its stitching. The cap is named to a Karl Busch which I believe is a period paper tag due to its fading and paper quality. I estimate this cap at a size 57.
A rare quality cap that is extremely hard to find.
