This tunic is a beautiful example of a Feldgendarmerie NCOs tunic, found by War-Den in Marseilles France.
When Hitler came to power in 1933 Germany, the Feldgendarmerie became a part of the German Army. They received full military training and given full power to control the policing within Nazi Germany. All personnel were trained in the full understanding and how to implement Criminal code, general and special police powers, reporting duties, passport and identification law, weapons drill, self-defence techniques, criminal police methodology, and general administration. The organisation was dissolved in Germany in May 1945.
The tunic is totally moth free and made from a heavyweight brushed wool material, exceptional quality external and internal. The collar patches and shoulder boards are for the Rural Police and silver bullion trimmed. On the left upper arm is the machine embroided Police Eagle and Swastika emblem surrounded by the oval oakleaf wreath, beautiful condition and very soft to the touch. The collar and cuffs are brown and piped in orange. All buttons are present and are alloy pebble dashed.
Internal of the jacket it is lined with a dark green silk cotton combination, the sleeves are lined with the usual stripped silk material. The machined slit for the dress dagger hangers is in excellent condition.
A beautiful tunic that would be hard to beat in terms of condition and quality.
