“When you see validation for a life’s work and dedication, it’s a beautiful day”
First thing I ever purchased was a reproduction Luftwaffe Officers Ring, I was 12 years old at the time. I bought it with four weeks pocket money combined with my earning from my ridiculously large paper-round. I had to have it because it was a shiny gold colour and had visions of it being worn by a Me 109 Fighter Ace. All things military I had a fascination for, spending hours in my local library looking out the very best military books that had the best pictures particularly of WW2 aircraft both British and German. I went to see the The Battle of Britain at my local Regal Cinema seventeen times in one year, I even sat through it twice in a day as in those days the major features ran consecutively with the afternoon matinee running into the evening screening, it was a simple case of hiding under the seat when the ushers shone their inadequate ever-ready battery run torches to check if there were any “double viewers” between the shows. The Battle of Britain was closely followed by my discovery that there was actually a better film before the “BoB” being The Great Escape then onto Where Eagles Dare and ultimately to Escape to Victory.
All of this led to me being well and truly addicted to the collecting of military related items and 47 years down the line the collection has grown as did my all-consuming obsession with the hobby we as collectors love so dearly. Strangely the hunt for an item for me, outweighed the actual feeling I had when I actually found that item and added it to my growing collection.
However all things come to an end. The web-shop of War-Den is the result of a life time’s work, but what better way to combine work with a hobby, a passion and invariably an obsession. All at War-Den hope you enjoy browsing our pages and it’s our pleasure to open up our collection for sale.
Finally the photo above is the Luftwaffe Officers Ring that set me on the course of military collecting many moons ago. It shouts reproduction of course, but it does hold a very special place in my collection and something that I would never part with.
Kind regards to all.
War-Den.
