This is every issue of the official Winter Olympic 1936 Newspaper – issues 1 (published 5th February 1936), through to issue 13 (published on 17th February 1936). Large format (28 x 37 cms), 207 pages with over 450 black and white photos, an excellent record of the games.
The newspapers appeared daily during the winter games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and were published by the German official organising committee. The captions are in English, French and German.
To add to the rarity of these newspapers, internal of the hard cover in pencil it states “Olympics 1936 – 6th to 16th February” – its signed by Marie Fraundorfer – she owned a hotel in Garmisch becoming owner in the late 1920s. Many of the German Olympic Team and dignitaries stayed at this hotel during the games. It is not known if Marie Fraundorfer was the original owner of this set, but she certainly signed it. The hotel still exists today.
Condition of the newspapers can be classed as good, but the hard cover is a little warped. The cloth spine is secure and keeps the newspapers in place, but is weak in areas.
A rare interesting set of the official Winter Olympic Newspapers 1936.
