Erwin Rommel was a German Field Marshal who served in the Wehrmacht during WW1 & WW2. Highly decorated in both World Wars, his greatest achievement possibly being his command of the 7th Panzer Division during the invasion of France in 1940. He also led the German & Italian forces in the North African Campaign and established his name as “The Desert Fox”.
He was not a supporter of the typical Nazi ideology and was implicated in the 1944 plot to assassinate Hitler. He was a national hero so Hitler gave him a chance to assure his reputation by allowing him to commit suicide. This he did by taking cyanide on 14th October 1944. Rommel was given a state funeral, and it was announced that he had succumbed to his injuries from the destruction of his staff car in Normandy.
This copy of “Rommel” is in excellent condition, unfortunately missing its dust cover. Being published in 1950, only 6 years after his death, the accounts gathered are from people who were familiar with the life and times of the Field Marshal.
A first class account of Rommel.
