The SS Handschar Division were a mountain infantry unit of the Waffen SS during WW2, although never officially part of the German Wehrmacht. It was active between 1943 and 1945 and was the first non-Germanic SS division which marked the begining of the SS into a multi-ethnic military force.

Himmler was inspired by the noted successes of the Muslim Bosnian-Herzegovinian Forces in World War I. He “endeavored to restore what he called ‘an old Austrian’ tradition by reviving the Bosnian regiments of the former Austro-Hungarian Army in the form of a Bosnian Muslim SS Division”. Hitler formally approved the project in mid-February 1943.

This Fez has a felt deep maroon body , the maroon fez was used for ceremonial purposes, a grey fez for active service. The black tassle is complete and securely affixed to the fez body. Unfortunately the SS Eagle and Skull have been removed, you can clearly see inside and out where they were attached. Internal of the fez is a black leather sweatband which is complete in all areas.

This fez shows wear and is a 100% period piece and sold as is without an addition of replacement badges.

Historical piece of SS head-wear in same condition it was found after WW2. It is priced accordingly due to the missing insignia.
