This SA Dagger has the full inscription to Ernst Rohm completely removed, grinding marks are visible. The Rohm inscription was removed after “The Night of the Long Knives”
The Night of the Long Knives, or the Röhm purge, also called Operation Hummingbird, was a purge that took place in Germany from 30 June to 2 July 1934. Chancellor Adolf Hitler, ordered a series of political executions intended to consolidate his power and alleviate the concerns of the German military about the role of Ernst Rohm and the SA. After the arrest of Rohm, all Rohm mottos were ordered to be removed from the issued daggers.
This example is maker marked Carl Eickhorn Solingen and unit marked Nm for Nordmark. It has a painted scabbard with scuffing, but not excessive. All plated fittings are in nice condition with all plate intact, there is one dent to the scabbard ball. The wooden walnut handle is near perfect, but has some slight rubbing to the varnish which does add to it. The SA lozenge has nice enamel and the inset eagle is in really beautiful condition. The dagger fits very tightly into the scabbard, this is normal for many of the Eickhorn SA daggers. All 4 securing screws are present. The blade motto “Alles fur Deutschland” is distinct, – blade in general is classed as good but has a little black pitting where the blade meets the cross guard, not excessive. The cross guard and scabbard at top fitting are marked “14 6082” – I am not sure what these markings refer to. The dagger has the standard hanger, leather and all fittings in excellent condition.
A very nice Ground Rohm SA Dagger with Hanger.
