A first day cover to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty – it is signed by Hitlers Secretary Traudl Junge and Admiral Sir Henry Leach – dated 4th April 1979.
Traudl Junge warked as Hitlers last private secretary from 1942 to 1945. After typing his Last Will and Testament, she remained in the Berlin Fuhrerbunker until his death. She was arrested in June 1945 and interrogated by both the Soviets and the Americans. In post war West Germany she worked as a secretary and published her memoirs in later life. She always claimed she knew little of the Nazi terrible atrocities but often felt guilt for missing opportunities to investigate reports she sometimes overheard.
Admiral Sir Henry Leach was a Royal Navy Officer who as First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff during the 1980s, was instrumental in convincing Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher that a retaking of the Falkland Islands held by Argentina, was feasible. She followed his advice and the Islands were liberated on 14th June 1982.
