This German WW2 EK1 was found in Norway, manufacturer Rudolf Souval Vienna. It comes in the early dome shaped Souval box.

The First Class Iron Cross was awarded to those who had previously received the 2nd class iron cross, but in addition performed 3 to 5 pure acts of bravery in the face of the enemy. An EK1 could be awarded directly from a single act of heroism considered well above the usual call of duty within the armed forces of Germany of course as long as the recipient already held the EK2.
This is a good example EK1 showing small areas of slight surface erosion on the black paint inner of the cross, the details are sharp and crisp. The box has one small area of chipping but intact and hinges, binding and fastening clasp are near perfect. I believe this cross has never moved from Norway and due to its areas of small erosion, could well have been issued to a member of the Kriegsmarine as its possibly been near salt water – this of course is something that cannot be verified.
A fine example with real character.
