Here is a one of two forks that War-Den obtained in Bavaria a few years ago, both were originally part of the issued cutlery for Reichsmarschall Hermann Görings private Deutsche Reichsbahn Dining Carriage.
In April 1945 two trains were found in Berchtesgaden, Germany which had a large quantity of Hermann Görings art collection, he hoped to move his large collection so as to avoid confiscation by the advancing allied forces. One train was found parked inside a tunnel close to Berchtesgaden Station, the second was found in the vicinity of what was Heinrich Himmlers house, the two forks in possession of War-Den originated from this second train.
Marked with the Deutsche Reichsbahn Eagle and the “DR”. On the reverse of the stem is the maker mark for Bruckmann & Sohne and a 90 representing the silver content. Further along the reverse of the stem is marked “243”, this was the code for issued items to the Reichsmarschalls Personal Dinning Carriage.
This fork is in excellent condition with only very slight discolouring at the tips of the fork prongs.
An historic personal item from a very senior member of the Third Reich inner circle.
